Economic restructuring strengthens a community’s existing economic assets while diversifying its economic base. This will be accomplished by retaining and expanding successful businesses to provide a balanced commercial mix, sharpening the competitiveness and merchandising skills of business owners, and attracting new businesses that the market can support. The goal is to build a commercial district that responds to the needs of today’s consumers.

The Colorado Main Street® program is a program to revitalize traditional downtown districts within the context of historic preservation. The program uses an approach that advocates a return to community self-reliance, local empowerment, and the rebuilding of central business districts based on their traditional assets of unique architecture, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community. Design means getting the Main Street area into top physical shape and creating a safe, inviting environment for shoppers, workers, and visitors.
